What’s good y’all, it’s ya girl Devyy! Welcome back and if you’re new here, welcome in! Check out my intro post here if you haven’t already. Let’s get into today’s topic, the thing most people struggle with, consistency. I know y’all side eyeing me right now like “chileeee how is this your topic and you haven’t been consistent with your posts???” AHT AHT! Let’s not bring the negativity in here today, let’s leave it at the door!

We all know what consistency means, but just in case someone needs a refresher, it’s a commitment you make to yourself and others. It’s repetition, repeatedly doing the same things daily/weekly/monthly/yearly to achieve a goal. It means you have to believe, focus and put in work. It takes determination and discipline. You have to commit to it and that can be tiring depending on your mindset.
Let’s be real, you have your job/career, relationships (family, friends, significant other), goals, hobbies, etc. It may seem like a struggle trying to be consistent with everything, but isn’t that how anything is without organization? It’s chaos. A lot of people talk about what they’re going to do, but never put those thoughts into motion, no coordination, no plan, no hope. The main reason people struggle with consistency is because they lack patience. They want instant gratification which causes them to lose their focus.
My consistency and inconsistency are in an ongoing battle. Recently, I’ve been extremely inconsistent with my friendships. I leave my phone on DND and a lot of times I respond days late. It’s not something I’m proud of, it’s something I’m actively working on. That’s the thing, you have to actively engage in what’s important to you, be proactive. Being proactive means you have to take responsibility. It takes time and means you have to anticipate problems, consider all options and make your own decisions in order to achieve your goals.
Tips on Being Consistent:
- Change your mindset. Prepare your mind for the changes that are coming. You have to have encouraging and positive thoughts going into this. Without the mindset, you will not be successful in being consistent.
- Create goals. Think about what you want in life and how to start.
- Write these goals down. Focus on things you can do to achieve them and come up with a routine. Think about what would be effective.
- Surround yourself with supportive people. Make sure you have positive people around that will support your decisions and find a way to help you achieve any goals you have.
- Track your success. Celebrate achievements. Reward yourself. Remember you’re doing this for you, to better your life!
- Eliminate self doubt. The self doubt is coming. It will definitely destroy consistency. Write down an encouraging quote to help you remember to keep going! Remind yourself of your outcome goal, you got this!
- Just do it. There are going to be days where you don’t feel like doing certain things. That’s okay, we’re human. When you’re first starting to be consistent though, it may be a challenge to take a few days off and come back to it. Even if you don’t feel like it, do it. If you’re unsatisfied, try referring back to your goals and come up with a different plan.
- Reflect. The ultimate goal is to improve your life. Take time to make sure that what you’re being consistent with is working. We’re not here to just do the same thing over and over without progression.
Train yourself to have self-control. Self-control turns into discipline, discipline turns into consistency, consistency turns into success. I believe in you and I hope you believe in yourself!
Until next time,
Devyy J
